I don’t think I’ve really ever fully considered that aspect before. Luckily, the few times I have requested a refund from Apple, they did it, essentially, no questions asked.īut, damn. Giving them an excuse to cancel our accounts and refusing further service. TLDR: purchased OS X Lion from, but there is no way to download it in 2020. And a warning for anyone who may be thinking about purchasing OS X Lion from the Apple Store! I’m writing this post up for anyone who may have spent hours searching for the exact same issue. However, they admitted I deserved a refund, and so they were able to apply the refund towards a previous purchase in my account.

Unfortunately, team couldn’t issue a refund because the code had been redeemed. He called my nearest Apple Store and arranged for them to wipe and re image the computer. This was not made clear at all on the purchase page.

It was intended as an update package for systems running Snow Leopard. Finally the last tier, a Senior Supervisor explained that there is no way to download OS X Lion from the App Store. To their credit one of the techs tried in vain to find a direct download link outside of the App Store. I then spent 3 hours on the phone with 5 different people trying to figure this out.

They asked me to phone technical support. The next day I got on with support chat who assured me that the download should be in the App Store, and no they couldn’t refund me because the code was already redeemed. It was already past support hours and so I would have to wait. Dang it! I searched around for a couple hours before turning to Apple support. The App Store took my code but I couldn’t find it in my purchases tab. I expected to be able to download it, and burn it to a DVD as I have in the past with previous version of OS X.

The next day I received the code and entered it into the App Store on my 2018 MacBook Pro running MacOS Catalina. I googled around and found that Apple still sells OS X Lion on ! It’s a downloadable product! Perfect! I purchased it for $19.99 and waited a day for the email with my App Store code to arrive.

So I needed to find or make an OS X Lion install DVD. Well it turns out the model didn’t have a recovery partition and it didn’t support the Internet recovery firmware either.
